In 2021, SAW was entrusted with the foyer refurbishment of the 5-star InterContinental Hotel in St. Julian’s, Malta. Having opened more than 15 years prior, the hotel had undergone multiple renovation projects over the years. SAW’s long-standing partnership with the hotel made the team the natural choice for this high-profile project, which would significantly influence guests’ first impressions upon arrival.
The refurbishment was executed in phases over two months, allowing the hotel to remain fully operational throughout the works. Careful planning and project management ensured that one section of the foyer could be completed before moving to the next, minimising disruption and maintaining a seamless guest experience during the construction period.
While the foyer was given a fresh, contemporary look, select elements from the original design were preserved and refinished to align with the upgraded aesthetic, helping to control costs without compromising style. SAW also delivered bespoke upgrades to the reception area and counters, utilising high-quality veneers and ribbed American walnut, ensuring every surface reflected the hotel’s premium standards.
The project highlighted SAW’s expertise in hospitality interiors, balancing technical precision, aesthetic refinement, and operational practicality. Collaborating with Carlo Schembri &bold, the team successfully elevated the foyer into a welcoming and sophisticated space, reinforcing the InterContinental Hotel’s position as a leading luxury destination in Malta.
