Scope of Joinery Works

SAW was selected as the joinery partner for the refurbishment of the San Karlu Hotel, a project that posed notable logistical challenges due to its location in the historic heart of Valletta. With restricted site access and tight programme constraints, every stage demanded careful coordination, efficient transport planning, and precise on-site execution to ensure seamless progress without compromising quality.

The scope of works encompassed 31 guest rooms, along with 58 internal doors, 110 external apertures, 15 internal windows, and a balcony unit, each designed and manufactured to align with the building’s architectural context. Beyond the guestrooms, SAW delivered bespoke joinery for the reception desk and wall panelling, waiter station, seating benches, and custom storage units, integrating both functional and aesthetic considerations across every element.

All fire-rated doors and key furniture components were crafted to meet the highest safety, durability, and visual standards, ensuring compliance with hospitality-grade specifications while preserving the character and integrity of the site’s historic fabric. The balance between modern performance and traditional craftsmanship was central to the project’s success.

Through meticulous planning and expert workmanship, SAW successfully completed the San Karlu Hotel refurbishment on time and to exacting standards, reaffirming the company’s ability to manage complex urban renovation projects with precision. The result is a refined, durable, and visually cohesive interior that honours its setting while meeting the operational needs of a contemporary hospitality environment.
